I love this word. I find myself smiling when I think about it and say it.

Being cheerful is a choice. I think of cheery people, cheery food, cheery weather, cheery drinks, cheery chocolate, cheery fruits, cheery sunshine, cheery messages, cheery films and jokes.

Someone who is cheerful is happy and shows this in their behaviour.

Words that mean the same as being cheerful include: happy, bright, contented, glad, happiness, good humour, and exuberance.

Ask yourself: are you being cheerful today, right now?

Tips to learn to be more cheerful from Dr Christina Hibiry:

  1. Smile on purpose – in other words fake it till you make it
  2. Hold your tongue – sometimes doing or saying nothing is the best solution
  3. Change your brain daily- our brains are naturally wired to be negative in the mornings – focus on good things
  4. Let go – one of the hardest things you can do is to let of the past
  5. Get in the PRESENT. Meditate, breathe, pray or ponder
  6. Practice patience and gratitude – proven happiness boosters
  7. Take time out – just to “be” rather than “do”
  8. Focus on creation and memory making
  9. Admit your truth – it’s ok to not feel great all the time

Act of kindness: choose an option above and make someone cheerful today!
