The scorching days of summer are upon us, but you don’t have to put your workout routine on the back burner just because it is very hot and humid outside.

Instead of using the heat as another excuse to skip your workout, remember why you started Good Habits in the first place.

Exercise is one of the core habits and it is important to keep it going no matter what the conditions are outside.  In addition to the tips below, most of us have access to lovely cool gyms which are regularly cleaned to ensure a high standard of hygiene is maintained and include social distancing as part of our new norm.

Top tips for exercising outside over these hot summer months:

  • Choose to exercise in the cooler hours of the day (early morning and after sunset)
  • Perform long warm-ups to increase your body temperature prior to exercise
  • Hydrate a lot – prior to and during exercise
  • Take along a buddy for a chat and safety especially if exercising outside
  • Decrease the intensity – your body is already under stress from the heat so you don’t need to work as hard as you normally would
  • Stress relief – get out and work off that stress. It makes a world of difference
  • Time for contemplation  – great for thinking or bouncing off ideas with a buddy
