The Problem

Water-borne diseases are the ones caused by pathogenic microbes spread via contaminated water. The most common of all water-borne diseases are diarrhea, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, Hepatitis A, Giardia.

The Action

  • Install a water efficient toilet in rural areas.
  • Use the minimum amount of detergent and/or bleach when you are washing clothes or dishes. Use only phosphate free soaps and detergents.
  • Minimize the use of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers. DO NOT dispose of these chemicals, motor oil, or other automotive fluids into the sanitary sewer or storm sewer systems. Both of them end at the river.
  • Coagulation and Flocculation
  • Water treatments

The Outcome

  • Surface and groundwater require treatment before
    distribution
  • Technologies should be used which reflect capacity to operate the plant and which provide adequate treatment
with this, one could learn the need for treating ground water and methods of doing the same.
